Devra Pransky, PR Specialist, (412) 995-7685

(PITTSBURGH – September 12, 2005) The Art Institutes announced
today that it will assist both domestic and international
students from universities in New Orleans, southern Louisiana,
Mississippi and Alabama universities, which have been closed for
the foreseeable future due to the devastation caused by
Hurricane Katrina.

The Art Institutes will make available both on-campus and
online courses that might be able to permit dislocated students
to progress in their academic careers during this semester of
disruption. Students at a university forced to close by
Hurricane Katrina may register at any of The Art Institutes 31
locations across the nation for courses, on a space-available
basis, for the fall semester.

The Art Institutes will waive tuition for dislocated students
who have already registered and paid tuition at their home
institution for the fall 2005 semester. If dislocated students
have not yet paid their tuition at their home institution, they
will be assessed the lesser of the current published tuition and
fees at the home institution, or The Art Institutes’ published
tuition and fees for the fall semester, as determined by the
school president.

“The Art Institutes strives to assist college students who have
been affected by Hurricane Katrina,” says Dave Pauldine,
president of The Art Institutes. “The Art Institutes offers this
initiative as a way to reach out to the students in the Gulf
Coast region whose lives and education have been impacted by
Hurricane Katrina and do what we can to assist those students.”

The Art Institutes is a group of 31educational institutions
located throughout North America. Offering a broad range of
programs including: audio production, culinary arts, culinary
management, fashion design, fashion marketing, graphic design,
industrial design technology, interior design, media arts &
animation, multimedia & Web design, photography, restaurant
management and video production. Not all programs are offered at
all schools.

The Art Institutes operate in Atlanta, Arlington, VA (as The
Art Institute of Washington), Boston (as The New England
Institute of Art), Charlotte, Chicago and Schaumburg, IL,
Cincinnati (as The Art Institute of Ohio – Cincinnati), Dallas,
I would be glad if You shared your opinion about studies of visual arts in high European art schools, be it academy or university.
I'm actually looking for studies in English language, and I'm particularly interested in schools, providing combined course of fine arts, some practical things, like design, and art history.
Thank you.

Recherche Photography

Rare, Refined, Romantic. Not your everyday Wedding Photography.

Open the door…to a lifetime’s worth of memory and meaning. As rare, refined and romantic as its discriminating clientele, Recherche Photography is no ordinary photography studio. Born from ideals of beauty and balance, it is a business that revolves around the unique beauty of its treasured clients. It is a Bohemian boutique that invites you to relax, dream, and escape from the daily grind. And it is a one-of-a-kind experience that will transform your landmark celebration into lasting, heirloom-quality memories fit for generations to come.

The staff of Recherche Photography have come together to create a personalized, intimate environment that is truly a feast for the senses. From your initial consultation to the arrival of your impeccably-packaged photographs, you will be treated with care and consummate professionalism every step of the way. It’s a standard that shows in every frame.

From one-of-a-kind keepsakes in its boutique to unforgettable mementos of life’s passages, Recherche Photography is your uniquely sophisticated urban retreat. Your life contains moments of exquisite beauty and extraordinary meaning and your engagement and wedding are just the beginning of a life-long love affair.

Fall in love with Recherche Photography…why entrust your precious memories to just any photographer?

A Wedding vendor should realize that your wedding is not a cookie-cutter process. They should custom tailor all packages to each client. However Recherche Photography notices that most brides fit fairly well into one of four categories. No matter if you get married in Denver Colorado, to Europe or Nationally as a Destination wedding, Recherche Photography has a wedding package for you. Which one are you?

1) The Minimalist

You’re The Minimalist. Simplicity is your middle name – from the sleek lines of an iPod to the pleasures of a perfectly cut white shirt, your personal style is easy and unadorned. Detail-oriented and down-to-earth, you bring order to all around you. The sounding board for friends and the go-to-girl at work, you’re capable, rational, and precise. But don’t sell yourself short – you radiate true beauty through straightforward communication and a soothing demeanor. There’s nothing pared-down about your passion for detail or your love of real honest living.

Crave: A class in Zen flower arrangement, a stack of plain silver bracelets, an iPhone

Avoid: Oversized baubles, multi-course meals, vanity plates

2)The Sensualist

You’re The Sensualist! Sexy and seductive, you’re governed by the five senses, which you shamelessly indulge with extravagant sights, luscious textures, and romantic meals. You’re at your peak when indulging in a decadent meal, sharing a passionate embrace, or blessing out in a tub spiked with exotic oils. More champagne and truffles than tea and scones, you bring a sense of luxury and passion to everything you do. From your fabulously overdone signature to your penchant for drama, you don’t believe in half measures.

Crave: A Mediterranean wine cruise, a full-body massage, a seductive flacon of hand-mixed perfume

Avoid: Stainless steel, low-fat anything, torturous Spin classes

3)The Organic

You’re The Organic! Your home is the true center of your life, and you decorate it with a flea-market sensibility and sustainable style. Obsessed with comfort and ease, you’re more likely to opt for a midnight hike than a crowded bar. You’re the person who brings incredible homemade cookies to a friend in distress and serves the perfect cup of tea in a fabulous vintage mug. From your eclectic personal style to your open, giving nature, you’re the personification of honest ease.

Crave: Fair-trade dark chocolate, a weekend in the mountains, a treasure-finding trip to your favorite vintage boutique

Avoid: Stinky subways, traffic, uncomfortable high heels

4)The Sophisticate

You’re The Sophisticate! Fashion is your middle name, and urbane luxury is your game. A world traveler, you can hold your own in a boardroom or a boutique. Your fresh, fun approach to life means that you infuse some oomph in everything you pursue. From updating a classic cashmere sweater with a hyper-modern piece of jewelry to surprising a friend with a perfectly-arranged bouquet of her favorite flower, you’re classy and sassy.

Crave: Plane tickets to New York or Berlin, season passes to your city’s most cutting-edge museum, a box of over-the-top cupcakes

Avoid: Boring take-out dinners, sports bars, people who don’t write thank-you notes

Try the quiz online to see what you are:

The beauty of photography is the opportunity it provides to those who take photographs. There is a wide array of possibilities for the photographer who is looking to make money taking pictures. Some may opt to take pictures of the beautiful sunset or mountains, while others like to hire themselves out to people to take photographs for them. Event photography is a very popular type of employment within the photography industry. Event photography software serves to make this job a bit easier. Not sure what event photography is and why you might consider it? Read on to find out all the information on it.

What is Event Photography?

Have you ever been to a wedding? That’s a silly question because most likely, you’ve been to a lot of those. What about a sporting event or a concert? Chances are, if you’ve gone to any of these, you’ve noticed photographers there taking pictures of the event. This is, in a gist, what event photography is. It is photography taken at events such as a wedding, sports event, concert, awards show etc. Event photography software will help you with this job.

Do Event Photographers Make Good Money?

If you’re looking for a type of photography that is pretty much sure to earn you good money, event photography is it. While for most photographers it isn’t all about making money, they can’t deny that event photography is very lucrative. Some event photographers have reported making as much as thousands of dollars for taking pictures at one event. That’s certainly a lot of money.

It’s worth noting that not all event photographers make this type of money, although most do provided they’re very professional. Event photography software helps them to take and manage professional event photos.

What Equipment Do I Need?

People will pay to have quality event photos taken, so it’s important for you, as an event photographer, to have quality equipment. This means making a bit of an investment. You’ll need to spend money to get money you need to purchase some of the best photography equipment available, which includes the camera and event photography software.

Let’s start with the obvious: the camera. You’ll want to get a digital camera, but stay away from the very small cameras – those are for amateurs. There are some great digital cameras on the market which have the traditional camera look, but are digital. These have the big lens, great zoom features and excellent megapixel quality. Go for a digital that has at least 8 megapixels. This may cost you from $400 on up.

Grab a good event photography software program, too. A good event photography software program will allow you to manage your photos in the easiest way possible. If you’re not sure which event photography software program to buy, read some reviews online or ask around.

Next, you’ll want to invest in a big memory card. Think at least 2GB, because the photographs with the highest quality tend to take up the most space. Nothing is worse than being at a gig and running out of space, so buy a few 2GB cards and you’ll be set there.

Good batteries are also required. Make sure they are long lasting and hold a good charge (if they’re rechargeable). Get an extra set of batteries, too.

Finally, you’ll want to invest in a good stand and case. The stand will allow you to take great still shots, while the case will protect your investments. Definitely don’t skimp here.

Why Do Event Photography?

Still not sold on why event photography could be a great choice for you? That’s alright, as many people are skeptical of it. We’ll give you a couple reasons here.

-Flexibility. One of the great things about event photography is that it providers photographers with a great deal of flexibility. You are able to choose how many events you do and how many hours you work. Usually, you won’t have to work weekdays, or if you do, it may only be for a few hours. This is good for parents who want to work and still have time with their kids. Using event photography software can help to make things even more flexible and easy.
-Great Pay. Have you ever wanted to make hundreds or thousands of dollars for just a few hours work? You can do exactly this as an event photographer. Event photography pays very well, so it’s very easy to make a lot of money doing it.

Why Event Photography Software?

There are a lot of reasons why you should use event photography software, but we won’t get into all those now. Instead, we’ll just give you the biggest reason, which is that it makes your job a lot easier. Event photography software will automate the process of managing and naming photos, and will even help you when it comes time to edit the photos. That is why you should consider buying event photography software.

I really like black and white photography but I also really like color photography. I want a digital camera.
Art Investment Guide

Second only in size to the US market, The UK art and antiques market is worth well over £4 billion a year, and holds a global share of some 26% of the world’s total art sales. In terms of volume, the UK is the largest marketplace for art on the planet.(1). In 2005, the index covering sales of old masters showed growth of 18.8%, while the similar index covering post-war and contemporary art rose 8.3%. Over the past five years, the average annual returns were 3.1% and 17.7% respectively.(2). That’s a better return than investing in stocks and shares.

Buying art can represent a fantastic long-term investment opportunity. In order to help you make an informed decision on the art you buy through The Art Ministry website, we have put together some key considerations to bear in mind when selecting work from our galleries. With over 25 years’ experience in the art market, our team have followed the same steps to ensure all work available in our Online Store is fairly valued.

1. Buy what you like

It’s important to trust your own taste when buying art. Our aim in providing this collection is to offer artwork for every budget that adds interest to your home or office, a talking point that enriches your environment and lifestyle. Great art needn’t be expensive, and buying artwork should primarily be an expression of your own personality. Like stocks and shares, the value of artwork can go up or down, so it’s crucial you buy what you like and can afford. Ultimately the true value of art is in the pleasure or feelings it evokes. The more people that find it appealing the more demand increases, which inevitably increases the value.

2. Do your homework and understand the value of the work

When you view a piece of artwork to buy, pay attention to detail. If you look into the way it has been physically created, how much time it took and the journey the artist went through in producing the piece, you will come to appreciate the skill of the artist and the effort involved in making the work. When it comes to value, don’t be taken in by the medium either. For example, oil paintings are in general more expensive than watercolours, but the latter can require more skill to achieve the desired impression.

The more artwork you look at and the more background information you obtain on various artists and how they work, the more you will learn what you like and why. Comparing the merits of a work with other artist’s work will help you determine the inherent value in any given piece and assist your buying decision. If you want to know what similar work has sold for, use a source like The Art Sales Index, which has catalogued art prices since the 1950’s, or the Mei/Moses Fine Art Index, which tracks various auction price indexes and compares them to the stock exchange to gauge relative performance.

The comparative merits include:

The artist’s exhibition history

The nationality of the artist

What country the artist works in

The medium the artist uses

The size and dimensions of the piece

The price their work has sold for in the past

3. Buy from a reputable dealer

Only buy artwork from a reputable dealer. The best ones will provide extensive background information on the artists in their portfolio, giving details on how they work and what inspires them. Knowing the artist’s passion might also help you find a work that is right for you. Click here to read ‘About the Artists’ at The Art Ministry.

Reputable dealers will also provide a ‘Certificate of Authenticity’ with all original and limited edition artwork sold. This will be signed by the artist and proves the work is 100% genuine and has been accurately valued. These also include the following information:

The title and visual description of the artwork

Edition numbers and collection details

Materials and techniques used

Size and dimensions of the work

The copyright holder

Distributor details

Release date of the artwork

Printer’s details if relevant

Comments from the artist

Notes on caring for the artwork

Scene in Pulp Fiction represented with Typography. By Jarratt Moody. www.jarrattmoody.com www.jarratt.tv
Help answer the question about graphics
What would be the best graphics card for the money?
I am building a computer and I cannot decide which graphics card to get. So far it looks like everything is pointing towards the geforce over radeon. I was originally looking at getting an ati radeon x1900 xtx, but pushed more towards the geforce 7900 gtx. Then, I have also been reading about the new DirectX 10 coming out soon. I need a graphics card so I am not sure whether to get a decent cheaper card for now and then buy later or just buy a good one now. I was even debating getting a good graphics card now and then buying a good graphics card later that supports DirectX 10 (Would they be campatible and work together?) What should I get? I dont mind getting a good graphics card right now, if it is worth it. I will have the asus m2n32-sli deluxe motherboard running an AMD 4600 processor. I am planning on doing serious film editing and possible gaming.
